I teach in the Counseling/Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology programs at Indiana University Bloomington. Our  counseling program was ranked  the 6th best program in the student counseling & personnel services category by the U.S. News and World Report in 2009 and 2010. I am also an affiliate faculty with the Asian American Studies program.  I have authored or co-authored 52 scholarly publications and in-press papers (44 in peer-reviewed journals). My major research interests are in the areas of (1)  Asian/Asian American psychology and (2) the psychology of men and masculinities. With regard to Asian/Asian American psychology, my overarching interest is in the relationship between cultural variables and mental health. My recent research projects have focused on suicide-related outcomes among Asian Americans. My students and I have created a website for professionals interested in preventing suicidal behavior in Asian American communties. With respect to the psychology of men and masculinities, my research interests include (a) men's emotional behavior, (b) men's subjective masculinity experiences, (c) men of color, and (d) social psychological and social constructionist perspectives on masculinity.

I also have an interest in positive psychology, including the science of gratitude and positive psychological interventions. Please email me if you would like a list of my recent publications or copies of my publications.

In terms of professional service, I am a consulting editor with the Psychology and Men and Masculinity and the Journal of Counseling Psychology .
