The Additional Scholarships require submission of slightly different or additional information than the Teacher Education Scholarships and are open to a larger population of students. Please review the eligibility requirements and apply for the opportunities for which you are eligible. 

You may qualify if you are ...


  • Minority student
    • Minority Teacher and Special Education Services Scholarship
      • Eligibility: A minority student (defined as Black or Hispanic) seeking a teaching certification; OR A student seeking a Special Education teaching certification; OR A student seeking an Occupational or Physical Therapy certification.

  • Math Education
    • Robert Noyce Scholarship/Stipend - Math 
      • Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation
      • Eligibility: Applicants for a Noyce stipend must have a commitment to teaching mathematics in a high need school district for at least two years for every year they receive funding.Applicants must either be working on or have already earned a baccalaureate degree in mathematics or they could already have a degree in a field with strong mathematics content (e.g., physics; engineering; computer science). Applicants may be current mathematics majors, or sophomores committed to majoring in mathematics.

  • Science Education
    • Paul E. Klinge Scholarship
      • Established in honor of: The late Professor Paul E. Klinge
      • Eligibility: Record of outstanding academic achievement and interest in science teaching and/or career in the sciences
      • Students who are pursuing science teaching in the School of Education or a science major in COAS or Transition to Teach person seeking licensing in a science may apply for this scholarship.

    • Robert Noyce Scholarship/Stipend - Science
      • Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation
      • Eligibility:
        • Students who are currently undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences who have applied to the Joint B.S/M.S. program (or are planning to) are eligible to be considered for the scholarships. Students who apply under this program are required to agree to teach a minimum of three years in a high need school district.
        • Undergraduates with science area majors (either B.A. or B.S.) or graduate students who have undergraduate science degrees planning to pursue teacher licensure through the Secondary Transition to Teaching (ST2T) program as graduate students are also eligible to apply.
        • Career changing professional who already has an undergraduate degree in a science area and are planning to pursue teacher licensure through the Secondary Transition to Teaching (ST2T) program are also eligible. Students who apply under the ST2Tprogram are required to agree to teach a minimum of two years in a high need school district. Recipients who do not teach in a high need district will be responsible for repaying any funds received, including any applicable interest.

  • Special Education
    • Delton C. Beier Retardation Award 
      • Established by: Delton Beier’s mother, Elizabeth C. Beier, in 1970 to honor her son
      • Eligibility: A full-time undergraduate or graduate enrolled in the School of Education with the goal of working with people with mental retardation

    • Gail Elizabeth Grimshaw Memorial Scholarship
      • Established by:  Family and friends of Gail Grimshaw, daughter of IU professors Allen and  Polly Grimshaw, who was an IU Special Education major at the time of her death.
      • Eligibility:  Outstanding senior majoring in special education on the Bloomington campus.
      • Selection Process:  Faculty in Special Education

  • Student teaching
    • Laura Ann Rawlins Hinkle Scholarship
      • Established by family of Laura Ann Rawlins Hinkle who was an elementary teacher
      • Elgibility:  Native American Indian, or a participant in the American Indian Reservation Project, to be applied toward tuition costs and possibly other expenses related to student teaching on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

    • Jepsen International Study Scholarship
      • Established by Keith J Jepsen and his wife, Kathleen A Dore as part of a personal commitment to fostering global understanding.
      • Eligibility:  Participants in the 2012-13 Overseas Project.

      • Established to support pre-service teachers
      • Eligibility:  Participants in the 2012-13 Urban Project

  • Future education major
    • IU Pathways Scholarship for Future Teachers
      • Established by the IU School of Education to encourage students from Pathways schools to pursue careers in education
      • Eligibility: Open to high school seniors who have graduated from a (Emmerich Manual High School and Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis or Riley High School in South Bend), have gained admission to IU Bloomington and plan to major in education. More information
